The setup

What is a Never-Fall dog tag?

A Never-Fall dog tag is a complete ID setup, not a loose tag. Four parts sit between your phone number and your dog:

The tag: 2.0mm stainless steel, deep laser engraved front and back, so the letters are cut into the metal.
The Never-Fall Ring: the ring that holds the tag. It’s made with high-quality stainless steel, and its double coils are thicker and stronger than a normal split ring’s, hard to deform and impossible to prise open with a fingernail. It’s pull-force tested to 48kg on Lite and 100kg on MAX.
The 26mm heavy-duty attachment ring: links the Never-Fall Ring to your collar.
Your collar’s D-ring.

It arrives assembled, and it has to. The Never-Fall Ring is fitted to the tag with special equipment: it can’t be done by hand, and not even with normal pliers. That’s the point. If you can’t open it, a scratch or a pull at the dog park can’t either. All you do is open the 26mm ring onto your collar’s D-ring once, and you’re done.

How is Never-Fall different from a normal dog ID tag?

The difference is what holds the tag on. A normal pet shop tag usually comes with a thin split ring that you fit yourself. Never-Fall puts the strength into a tested ring and ships the whole chain assembled.

The weak point

Why do normal dog tags fall off?

Because the thin split ring opens, not because the tag breaks. Pulling, scratching, rough play and swimming stretch and twist a standard ring until it works open, and you find an empty ring hanging from the collar. Tested strength

What does "pull-force tested to 100kg" mean?

It’s the tested strength of the ring, not a weight limit for your dog. Our manufacturer tests the Never-Fall Rings on a pull-force testing machine before they are shipped to us. The Lite ring is tested to 48kg and the MAX ring to 100kg. A thin split ring doesn’t fail in one big pull. It wears open from everyday pulling, scratching and play, so the ring is the part we made stronger and had tested.

One owner, Carly, found out by accident. She clipped Bentley’s lead to the ring loop instead of the collar and pulled back on her 43kg dog, and the ring held. That’s not how it’s meant to be used, but it shows where the strength is.

Lite or MAX

Should I choose Never-Fall Lite or MAX?

Go by how your dog behaves, not by its weight. The tags are the same shapes, sizes and weights; MAX has the stronger ring.

Never-Fall Lite (from $39.90, 48kg tested ring): everyday active dogs of any size, daily walks and dog parks, small dogs and puppies, and anyone upgrading from a pet shop tag.
Never-Fall MAX (from $44.90, 100kg tested ring): strong pullers, rough players, escape artists and large dogs, and any dog that has already lost a tag.

Honest limits

Is a Never-Fall tag indestructible?

No, and no setup is. Never-Fall is built to stay on through normal movement: walks, play, swimming and scratching. It isn’t built to defeat a real snag. If your dog could get caught on something, take the collar off. Check the collar and the 26mm attachment ring now and then, the same way you’d check the collar itself. The 26mm ring is a wear part: spares are sold separately, and Plus includes two.

Is a Never-Fall tag different from the tag itself?

The tag is the same quality on Lite and MAX. What makes it Never-Fall is the tested ring and the assembled setup that holds the tag on.

Does 100kg mean MAX is for dogs up to 100kg?

No. 48kg and 100kg are the tested strengths of the rings, not dog weights. Choose by how hard your dog is on tags.

Will it fit my dog’s collar?

Yes, it fits any collar with a D-ring. For a collar that doesn’t open, or a martingale, message us first and we’ll help.

Do I need tools to put it on?

No. It arrives assembled; you only open the 26mm ring onto the collar’s D-ring.

Can my dog still wear the council rego tag?

Yes. The rego tag can stay on the collar alongside it.

My dog is microchipped. Does it still need a tag?

Yes. A neighbour can’t read a microchip, but they can read a tag and call you straight away. The chip is the permanent backup.
